Keanu worked with director Gus Van Sant on My Own Private Idaho, and I guess he decided a small cameo in the director's next film would be fun. The movie was based on a novel by Tom Robbins of the same title. It makes a lot more sense if you read the book before watching the movie as it is even more bizzare than Idaho! (Many people find that hard to understand). I read the book about 3 years after seeing the movie. I had seen just about every other Keanu movie there was to see so I decided his smaller role stuff was what to watch next. You be the judge as to whether you should see it or not. Keanu's role is rather funny, though tiny!

The movie is about a young girl named Sissy Hankshaw, whose only flaw is her 6 inch thumbs and a complusion to do things with them, as otherwise they itch. She discovers that hitchhiking works best and travels the country looking for free rides to her next place to hitchhike. Keanu plays the asmatic/insecure Cherokee Indian and painter, Julian Gitche, who falls in love with Sissy. In the book they end up married, but I don't believe this occurs in the movie. Keanu comes out, chokes for a few minutes and is seen for no more than a couple more seconds. If you're not into the internally bizarre and bisexual relations in movies, it's not worth rental EXCEPT to see Keanu.
